Deputies
Although there are no official deputies to the Minister of Tournaments, help is always needed at the list table during Crown Tourney. To volunteer to help at the list table, please contact the Minister of Tournaments at least one week prior to Crown Tourney.
Additional Information
The office of Minister of Tournaments is responsible for running the list at Crown Tourney and therefore must be in attendance at every Crown Tourney during his/her tenure in office.
Additionally, in order to ensure a capable and experienced pool of list administrators throughout the Kingdom, the office of the Minister of Tournaments may conduct classes throughout the Kingdom to teach the ins and outs of list administration to any who are interested. List administration is one of the many ways non-combatants can support the martial activities in Northshield.
In the past, attendance at a List Administration 101 or other course that includes sufficient information on the technical aspects of running a list has qualified MITs for an administrative signature in their paperwork.
Beginning with the Fall 2005 Coronation, classes may also be offered at each Coronation, subject to the desires of Their Majesties, providing an overview by the Kingdom Earl Marshal or an appointed representative of the allowed weapons styles and conventions of the upcoming Crown Tourney and a walk-through by the Minister of Tournaments of the tourney tree. These classes are intended to allow the populace to better understand what can sometimes seem to be the "mystery" of Crown Tourney lists.

- How to Run a Tourney -
doc
This handout contains some general notes and tips on how to run a tourney of any style. It focuses mostly on communication with the Marshals and Heralds and setting up the list table.
- Midrealm Uber-Waiver Form -
pdf
This a newer form in the Midrealm designed to consolidate paperwork needed for running a list; although no similar form yet exists in Northshield, the Midrealm form will often be accepted. It serves as tourney sign up, marshal sign up, paperwork tracking (membership and authorization cards), and waiver for participation
- Tourney Styles, Bouts and Times -
doc
This is a sheet describing the three most common tourney styles fought in the SCA (at least in Northshield) - Single Elimination Tourney, Round Robin, and Double Elimination Tourney. Also included are formulas for figuring out how many bouts for each style of tourney given the number of fighters.
- Tourney Bouts and Times Cheatsheet -
doc |
xls (Requires Excel or compatible program)
This is a sheet showing how many bouts to expect for each of the three tourney styles above and approximately how long a tourney of that many bouts will take (assuming 4 minutes per bout on average). The Excel spreadsheet can be reconfigured to compute times for different expected times per bout.
- Standard Double-Elimination Tourney Tree -
xls (Requires Excel or compatible program)
This file contains standard double-elimination tourney trees in Excel for 5- to 16-combatants, including recommended bye placements.
- Challenge Round Double-Elimination Tourney Trees -
xls (Requires Excel or compatible program)
This file contains double-elimination tourney trees in Excel for 5- to 16-combatants, including recommended bye placements, for tourneys where the first round is determined by combatant challenges. These tourneys preclude the seeding of necessary bye fights into the first round and can be more complicated both to run and for observers to follow.
- The Atlantian Minister of the Lists Tourney Forms page.
The Atlantian Minister of the Lists website contains Adobe Acrobat tourney trees for double elimination tourneys for anywhere from 3 to 25 and 32 fighters. There is also a Round Robin form available here for ten fighters including suggested matches for bouts.
- Using a table format to run a list
Lord Yves de Fortanier deserves commendation and much good single malt scotch (or the beverage of his choice) for his website at the Rotunda detailing the Table Method for running lists. Lord Yves has done an absolutely fabulous job describing the style and providing examples of how to use it in real life situations. Go. Read. Learn.
